Welcome to the Lunar New Year

A new year, a new sense of purpose

Welcome to the Lunar New Year. Although the official new year is a month passed, it is the Lunar New Year that really turns things over. This past year was the year of the monkey and just like it sounds, it was a bit (ok, a lot) wild – a definite yang year. 2017 however, marks the other side of things as we the year of the rooster. Lucky for us, we are heading into a yin year so we should be experiencing the calmer side of things (knock on wood, fingers crossed and rabbit foot in hand).

However, unlike traditional New Year’s eve, the Lunar New Year focuses on how to foster positive energy as a being and maintaining it throughout the year as a whole. This, as opposed to very actionable goals, such as exercising, cutting out sugar from your diet or landing a new job. The Lunar New Year asks you to invest in the symbology of your life and take the time to let the flow of life naturally guide you.

This Lunar New Year is a great time to foster some new-found positive energy in your life, to de-clutter from past experiences and to start afresh by getting rid of the things that have held you back. The Lunar New Year is the perfect time to clear your mind of past experiences or energy that has potentially held you back from experiencing new things that hold the possibility of feeling good.

The Qi and the Yin Yang, according to some Chinese wellness experts, essentially govern the body. Your yin and yang will balance you out while the qi will put your body either into or out of harmony. If you are feeling stressed or tired, your body will react in disharmony but, if you are feeling happy and at peace, your qi will be strong and in harmony. For your qi to be well-functioning, your whole system must be in harmony – balancing it out together. Things such as working out, being around positive people, finding joy in the everyday and carving out time to dedicate to the things you love can make room for your qi to be in harmony which can bring on a great sense of flow.

Let the crazy things happen as they may but start to create internal peace through following your bliss – let positivity be your guide. If you work on your yin, it will even out the yang in your life.

Happy Lunar New year!
